  • Monday 1 September 2008 - Labour Day Public Holiday (first Monday of September)
     
  • May 29 to Sept 27 2008 - Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival  - Bard on the Beach is one of Canada's largest professional Shakespeare festivals. Held in Vancouver's Vanier Park, the festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas and several special events in two performance tents from June through September. 
     
  • The Pirate Festival - Held at Fort York, Toronto, the festival is held on weekends and includes music, comedy and entertainment.
     
  • Canada's Largest Ribfest at The Waterfront at Downtown Burlington. Take advantage of Spencer Smith Park by the water, fun, sun, kid's stuff, giveaways, great music, and most importantly - taste some of the best ribs in the world!
     
  • Calgary Highland Games  - Run by the Calgary United Scottish Games Association, the annual event was first held in 1913 and this year includes competitions, demonstrations and entertainment.
     
  • Marshville Heritage Festival  - Held on Labour Day weekend each year, the festival includes entertainment for young and old, a free concert, demonstrations and food.
     
  • Canmore Highland Games - This Alberta festival is presented by the Three Sisters Scottish Society and features non-stop entertainment and loads of competitions.
     
  • Toronto International Film Festival - One of the world's premier film festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival supports Canadian filmmakers and showcases the best in global film.
     
  • Vancouver Fringe Festival  - Unregulated, Untamed, Unnaturally Tasty Theatre. Every year, close to 100 theatre groups and performers from across Canada and around the the world perform for 11 days in diverse venues, from theatres to garages to a moving Aquabus.
     
  • Annual Plein Air Paint Out  - Held at Niagara Falls, Ontario - the headquarters of the International Plein Air Painters - the worldwide paint out is a yearly event for IPAP with a reception and awards on Saturday, September 9.
     
  • Langley Good Times Cruise-in The streets will come alive with classics of all sizes, shapes and colours and the people will flock by the thousands to relive memories and appreciate the care and detail that has been put into this amazing collection of automotive history and nostalgia.
     
  • Nova Scotia International Air Show  - Held at Halifax International Airport, the show includes static displays, markets and ground and air displays.
     
  • Canadian Deep Roots Music Festival - celebrates home and heritage through music, dance and stories. The festival blends the music of the Annapolis Valley's founding cultures - Mi'kmaq, Acadian, African-Nova Scotian and British Isles - with modern roots music from across North America and around the world.
     
  • Trois-Rivires International Festival of Poetry - International poets, numerous visual artists taking part in a variety of poetry-related exhibitions, and visiting authors are all part of the fun.
